- If this is the first time you are buying a motorcycle, absolutely avoid a new one!
- There are varying opinions about this one. Pros and cons. Pros is mainly you know the bike has not been abused, cons is the value drops as soon as you leave with it. Chances are also that It will fall over and be scratched anyway so a used may be better on that. Mainly its a personal preference but with gas prices as they are, many used sellers are selling their used for the same price as a new bike)
- The same could be said for buying a new car or even new sneakers. You are just as likely to scratch your new sneakers or dent your new car as your are to drop your bike. That doesn't mean you should buy used shoes.
- Do not buy a high performance sport bike unless you have a few years of experience on lesser machines under your butt .
- Do not buy a motorcycle on auction sites with deals too good to be true - if it seems too good, it is!
- When buying used, stay away from lesser-known models. Although the seller may try to sell it as a "collector's bike" or a "rare find" don't go for it. Rare and limited-run bikes are difficult to find parts for when they break down. Go for a common bike(honda , Modenas, Yamaha...) - they also have the advantage of a lower resale value, so you'll get a better bargain.
- Be aware that if the seller says "custom" the bike could have any level of modification from an aftermarket windshield to a spray-paint job. You may like the customized parts but if you dont you could spend a fortune finding and replacing the aftermarket or even homemade parts with stock.
last week i phone a guy from Mudah.my
i'm interested on his Modenas Kriss 110cc year 1996.
at first he said he got all the document for name transfer... Price at RM1.2k only
suppose he's coming to meet me at my place as he must agree my T&C,
suddenly he said the motorcycle roadtax dead years ago...
after an hour, he phone me and offer me another bike(Honda EX5)
but the motor been modify to a manual clutch year 1998 @ RM1.6k
since i agree with the price, and he agree my T&C, he shall ride the motorcycle he mention meet me around 2pm from Selayan to Shah Alam.
around 2pm,there's no call, no SMS reply or any info from him(though he's jam some where.)
when i phone him again at 3pm, he respond to me, the bike was sold by the owner it self. he's only helping his friend to promote the motorcycle...
luckily i doesn't buy the Modify bike (worry Insuaran won't cover us if any unwanted thing happened to us)
